OCT 30  POUR OURSELVES SOME CHEER
NOV 13  HO HO HO HOSANNA

Los Angeles and Pocatello

Bombadilio brings nostalgia and whimsy this holiday season with two original Christmas songs.

For thousands of years, stories and myths have brought humanity together, giving us shared ways to celebrate the mysteries of life. Some of the most enduring are the stories we share during the darkest time of the year. With these songs, we hope to celebrate the myths of Christmas in all their beauty, magic, and absurdity, no matter what we believe. Perhaps these stories become even more powerful when we're free to experience them on our own terms.

These are the band's first released recordings, with plenty more on the way.

Pour Ourselves Some Cheer

A beautiful, melancholy ballad about recapturing the feeling of Christmas, “whatever we believe.” The song was imagined as a Christmas Eve pub gathering, with people bringing their instruments, pulling up chairs and singing together. Whatever hardships they carry, or whatever they believe about God, there is still room to share the spirit of the season.

The final verse looks back to the generations who gathered around the fire at the Winter Solstice, marking the longest night and waiting for the light to return. The birth of the sun—or Son—belongs to that sense of renewal. Acoustic and classical guitars, along with an acoustic bass carry the song without drums or percussion, while strings and layered voices swell toward the final chorus.

Ho Ho Ho Hosanna

A joyful celebration of everything Christmas, from a big ol’ sleigh all filled with toys to the newborn babe in swaddling clothes. It captures the childhood wonder of the stories of Santa Claus and Jesus Christ, wonderfully tangled together in our imaginations.

The song imagines the magical moment around midnight on Christmas Eve when the holy nativity of Christ’s birth transforms into the hopeful and exciting ride of Santa and his sleigh. It is sincerely jolly, funny, and catchy. Electric guitar, drums, jingle bells and a children’s choir make it a full-on Christmas celebration.

Short bio

Born in the mountains, raised by the wind, and baptized along the beach, Bombadilio brings the magic of Cosmic Folk music along on their journey to re-enchant life. Frontmen and best friends Michael Steed and Doug Chambers take their cue from the band’s namesake, Tom Bombadil: bouncing, bumbling and bopping through life, singing to the trees, the sky, the rivers, the Earth and all her creatures.

Michael tends toward wistful, hopeful ballads; Doug brings a powerful, more visceral folk-rock energy. Together they bring enchantment, storytelling, banter and plenty of dancing to the stage.

Longer bio

Michael Steed and Doug Chambers met in college after returning from Mormon missions: Michael from Brazil and Doug from Taiwan. Years later, in their late 30s, they decided to learn guitar together. Doug suggested to Michael that if they really wanted to learn, they should write their own songs. They began writing and trading songs, discovering a creative outlet that also helped them work through major changes in their lives.

After friends heard their songs at a retreat and encouraged them to perform, Bombadilio played its first show in 2021. They have since performed mostly original music, much of it in Utah, where Michael grew up and where the band has built an audience. Their recent backyard show, The Reckoning, brought together well over a hundred people for a set of approximately 20 original songs.

Michael lives in Los Angeles and Doug in Pocatello, so getting together to record has taken time. They call their evolving sound Cosmic Folk, with a little folk rock, punk-folk and even “Utah-style Jazz,” their playful name for an improvisational, collaborative approach. The songs are communal in nature, often lifting people into an ecstatic frenzy or melting them into a giant cuddle puddle. They have a couple albums’ worth of originals they are in the process of recording and plan to release them soon.
